Goodwood Revival - part 3

Here are some more pictures from Goodwood Revival.  It was a great event.  I want to go again next year.  Many of the cars were great.

I had the Daimler out this weekend, it was so much fun to get it out, running about doing errands.

One of the elements that I really enjoyed was the racing.  And oddly enough the racing I enjoyed the most was probably the slowest - it was watching the A35's racing.  It was brilliant.

One of the other things I realised over the weekend was that I drive my Daimler too kindly.  I need to drive it more and not worry about breaking it.  It was great to see so many old cars that had driven down.

 

 

Goodwood Revival

We went to the Goodwood Revival at the weekend.  If you like old cars you must go.  I have wanted to go for a few years - finally managed it.  The car park alone is worth the trip down.  I was like a kid in a sweet shop, so much to see, even before we went through the gate.

The weekend started well when we arrived at our B&B - the owners had a Series 3 v12 E-type Jag in the gargage that they showed us when they realised why we had gone down.

The countryside is beautiful and the Goodwood estate and track is lovely.

A kind of offer

Last weekend I had parked the Daimler in a local market town.  It was left outside of a pub for about an hour whilst we went to the bank, shopping etc.  When we got back a chap stopped me, admired the car and asked me what I wanted to sell him the car.  I suggested a price which was a few £thousand more than I would expect to get for it.  He continued to call me for a few days and then promised to ring with his best offer.  Of course he did not ring. 

It was a useful experience as it confirmed to me that I wanted to keep the car rather than make a few pounds.

Wheel, petrol guage and lights

The Daimler is running well.  But running an old car means that there is always something to sort, or in this case 3 things to sort.  I finally bought a spare wire wheel - since converting to wires I have not had a spare.  Does anyone know the best source of cheap tyres for these cars?  I do not need a good quality tyre - just a spare that works, and will hold air.

Today I took the car to a local supermarket - glancing at the fuel guage gave me a fright as it was showing empty.  When I popped it in the garage a couple of weeks ago it was showing a quarter.  I hoped it was the guage and not a leak.  I filled it at a local garage - about 7 miles away, still no movement on the guage.  Ideas anyone?

The third thing was the cover from the interior light fell off whilst I was driving.  I will have to have a look at how it is supposed to be held on - it would appear that it has been held on by blu-tack, which I suspect is not how Daimler used to build them

A Daimler, a Ferrari and a Jag

On Saturday we went to a local pub called the Pipe & Glass just north of Beverley in Yorkshire, England.  As it was such a nice day we took the Daimler.  Despite it being very warm the car ran faultlessly.  It did show slightly warm on the temperature guage, steady as just over centre, so not too worried.

When we got there we managed to park in the prime spot just by the front of the pub where many people were sat, enjoying their food and the sunshine.  We had not been sat down long before an Audi Q7 was replaced by a very nice Ferrari and then just behind that a Jaguar F type - lovely car, but the wrong colour.

The dry, warm weather has arrived.  It now makes it much easier to justify taking the Daimler out at every opportunity.  So the car gets to go to Tesco's, pick up the paper on Sunday and more recently whenever we go to the pub.  Now it has been recently very hot, one of the shortcomings of older cars is shown up - no air conditioning.  But overall it is great to get out in the car, lots of waves and smiles from drivers going the other way.
